Aliy - Web Design

I really need to build a proper website for myself - but at the moment I am concentrating on client work. Therefore, in the interim, here is my hastily-constructed, very temporary portfolio mini-site. It will be done properly when I get some time :-)

If anyone wants to contact me my email address is at the bottom of the page.

Fermette des Hiboux at Beynac

Client:

French holiday-home owners.

Site:

The Fermette des Hiboux website was built to provide exposure for this complex of lovingly-restored holiday properties in the Dordogne - and to allow potential guests to explore the area. The site features an image carousel on the home page as well as a number of photo-galleries and has access to the clients' webcam in France.

Liz Gregg, Photographer

Client:

A freelance commercial photographer with an impressive range of big-name clients.

Site:

This site was built primarily to showcase the client's fabulous images and for this reason a very clean and minimal look was chosen, with text kept to a minimum.

Vintage Aircraft Furniture

Client:

A UK-based company designing and creating stylish high-quality home furniture and sculpture using original and authentic aeroplane parts

Site:

VAF needed a site to market their unique products. Since everything is bespoke the range changes as existing pieces are sold and new pieces created - therefore a truely dynamic site was required, which could be easily updated by the client.

The site features a custom-built image carousel on the home page and a custom-built image gallery solution for the individual product pages. The image gallery uses CSS to display the large versions of the images in the gallery thus even works on browsers where JavaScript has been disabled.

Brilliant Women

Client:

A social enterprise that takes an inter-generational approach to inspire and empower change

Site:

This was a remodel of an existing website. The original site (by another agency) was written at a time when Flash-based sites were not problematic. The site has been totally recoded, and although the new version is faithful to the original style, it now displays correctly on iOS devices, allows for more effective SEO, has faster page-download speeds and permits page-zooming.

Maiden Erlegh Preschool

Client:

A lovely preschool near Reading, providing a stimulating and caring environment for children from age 0 to 5

Site:

Maiden Erlegh Preschool is run by a committed bunch of volunteer mums who decided that it was high time the preschool had its own web presence. The design brief was for a bright and colourful site. The logo was designed by the one of the children.

Social Enterprise Kent

Client:

A group of diverse, pioneering and innovative partner organisations, with the shared goal of supporting people and their communities

Site:

This organisation recently underwent a total rebranding and a new website was a part of the process. There is a parent site and 5 linked microsites for SEK's partner organisations. This was a large project with some 30+ pages, as well as news feeds for each sub-arm of the business. The site was constructed using a content management system already familiar to SEK staff so that they could update the content and news as required.

EKVAS

Client:

EKVAS is charity supporting voluntary and community sector organisations in East Kent. It is one of Social Enterprise Kent's five partner organisations

Site:

The Social Enterprise Kent website links to five microsites, of which the EKVAS site is one. All five microsites were designed and built in parallel with the main SEK site. For cross-organisation consistency the five microsites feature a common layout, but have different colour schemes to reinforce individual branding.

Canterbury Student Lets

Client:

Student landlords with a very large number of properties

Site:

The clients needed to be able to update the site easily when property details or availability changed; or if they purchased a new property. The individual property detail pages contain a lot of information (descriptions, rent tables, links to video-tours and many, many pop-up images) but a custom-built content management interface means that adding or altering details for a property only requires editing a simple text file.

Sam Skull Wellbeing Solutions

Client:

A life coach who specialises in helping businesses and individuals to reduce stress and achieve positive balance in their lives

Site:

As a starting point for this site's design the client presented a photograph of a Carribean beach scene - with its suggestion of enjoyment and relaxation. The resulting colour-scheme and use of "beachy" motifs help to reinforce the mood, while clearly laying out the benefits of life-coaching and making them easily accessible.

Motivated Mums

Client:

A subsidiary of Sam Skull Wellbeing Solutions, specialising in helping and empowering mums who may feel overwhelmed by the conflicting demands they face

Site:

The client's brand colour is strong pink and the butterfly motif was incorprated because of its associations with growth and change for the better. I built this site as a one-off long before I gave up my "day" job to become a full-time web designer and I think it definitely needs a revamp now - but it still has some nice features.

Sustainability Connections

Client:

An exciting advisory service promoting good environmental management with motivational employee engagement

Site:

This site will utilise WordPress as a Content Management System so that content can be added by the client. Current copy is still being written and the site design will be finalised once all the text is ready.

Clutter Sorted (2 designs)

Client:

A Whitstable-based professional declutterer with a sympathetic and warmhearted approach

Site:

We are still playing with designs for this project. The olive version was attempt one, but the client wanted something prettier and less minimal - reflecting a gentler, more holistic approach to the process of helping people declutter their lives. The second design with the floral wallpaper is closer to look required but we're still tweaking!

Addition of Social Media to "The Branding Workshop" site

Client:

Brand strategy is central to business strategy, and the Branding Workshop is a company with tried and tested tools that has helped numerous businesses to attain their strategic goals.

Contract:

The Branding Workshop's site was designed (by another agency) before Social Media became an important tool for business promotion. This contract involved altering the site's "contacts" page to add a MailChimp contact facility and colour-coordinated social media buttons to link to the business' Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.
